Are we in love?

Are we in love?

Is this just a silly game?

One we play with each other?

Are we in love?

And if we are,

why do we keeping hiding it

from one another?

Crimson displays of violet sunsets

children play in the park

laughter and love is all around us

and yet still we do not trust.

I will hold your hand

but leave your heart

I don’t want to cause you pain.

Maybe one day we will be brave

and hasten to arrive

at this altar built to serve.

Until than though

we shall sit in silence

and wonder…..

are we in love?

Darlin’

Darlin,
why did you never wear that dress?
Why did you let it hang in the closet?
I found it hanging there
after our last good-bye
your perfume still in the air.
I never saw how it hung on you
flattering a frame
others thought too slim.
I never saw it flare around your knees
as you swirled
dancing to that hometown music.
Darlin,
why did you have to leave?
Why did you have to go?
What did he give you?
What did he promise?
To make you walk away.
I thought this life
I thought this town
was good enough.
What dreams are you chasing?
What life do you want?
I am sorry I could not provide,
that I could not a fantasy fill.
