As the Front End Lead Supervisor, I had to do Employee Evaluations for approximately 45-50 employees. Granted I would hand some off to my 2nd but always the easy one. Employees that she regularly worked with. And I had all the rest. So while she would do 15 maybe the balance were mine. The fact that I do not have to do them this year is nothing short than an absolute joy. As I write this I am doing the sit down happy dance.
Each evaluation contained several parts: How they had achieved on the goal that I had given them last year. Where they excelled in their position. What areas could they improve in. What my goal was for them in the upcoming year.
I did not work with a lot of my ‘kids’ as they only worked evenings and Saturdays. As I worked every other Saturday and was constantly on the move, I am sure that they did not realize what I was doing. Until we sat down and I went over the evaluation with them.
I observe. When I was bagging the customers groceries I was watching how they were handling themselves. If they were applying all the customer service skills that were a part of their job. When I walked passed I could hear what was being said and the tone it was being said in. I was constantly observing.
Although I am not going to be doing the evaluations this year, I am still in observation mode. Now though, I observe so as to create characters when I write, and that is way more fun. LOL 🙂
