The Joker

When he first strode on the stage

wearing his white suit

his ten gallon hat

chomping on that cigarette

women swooned

men grinned

while teenagers were left to wonder.

The words he shouted

bantered with the crowd

lead many to believe

he was a man of integrity.

He spoke of God.

He spoke of how to make things right.

He spoke of how the world would bow

lay at the feet of his mighty nation.

He took over with nary a peep

smug eyes

pouting mouth

and hand shakes

which made everyone feel alive.

Than out came the truth

with hidden backroom meetings

unsupervised

promises were made

that gave away the country

the ability to fight

all while leaving the Joker at the helm.

Integrity

without it, one is nothing

with it a person of repute.

Without it one is a buffoon

with it a person trusted.

Integrity.

Morality.

Ethics.

The Joker not a man of integrity

but a blowhard who will lose the war.

I am a single hard working mom in her 40's. I have always written poetry and I love words. I live with depression and its ups downs. This is a space where I can create and write all that I need to.
