When Boredom Breaks

**This is not indicative of anything that I am going through. It is what flowed from my fingers as I began to type.**

When first we met

I was blinded…..

by your sweetness

by your tenderness

by the words you spoke to me.

As time did pass

I began to feel uncertain.

Small things began to bother me….

the snide smiles

the jokes that were not jokes

your friends always near

the laughter that followed me from the room.

Finally I confronted you

I asked what game was this you played?

You hemmed and hawed

assuring me this was true love

but my misgivings grew

doubt gnawing at my heart.

Today the truth finally became clear

when she came to see me

your wife

a bitter smile on her face.

This had been an elaborate hoax

made to make me fall

for no other reason

than a bet made

on a hot summer day

when boredom slayed all.
