Monster Emerges

Tiny child
tiny fiend
left to play
left to burn.
Did someone give him the matches
did lightening strike when no one was looking?
growing up
dreams of truth
dreams of misery
gilded in a world of rusted iron
cages erected by naked women
condemned to build their own crypts.
Flagrant exploitation
chained to mores
of 1929
riots in the streets
no longer productive
police state instituted
for the safety of all.
Reality is…..
it is fear.
Fear of what will happen
when society turns
when someone arises
to make things right
or worse?
his voice wraps itself around
no more carnage
no more abuses
time has come to move forward.
Evil comes in many forms.
Cloaked in pleasantries
shiny baubles
to turn eyes.
Sleight of hand
watch close for the mirage
see what he wants
not what he is doing.
Blinded by charisma
desperate for hope
easy to believe a charlatan
better then having to make a choice.
Be responsible.
Make a change.
Give up self worth
so one can claim ignorance.
Beware the viper
within your hand
for when it strikes
there will be mayhem.

This space is where I share stories about myself and my life and the creative poetry that stirs my soul. My hope is you will pull up a chair and a cup of coffee delving into the world that I offer and you find simple enjoyment for a few moments. Welcome to The Wonderful & Wacky World of One Single Mom

  1. Wow! Your work gets even better. The picture of the monster emerging and the brilliant point when you turn in the poetry to remind us of how the monster takes hold, to finish with the warning. I like how in your recent work the dark, the anger, the monster here all emerge and yet are bathed in well constructed lines. Such lines usually flow either from an outburst or are carefully constructed. Would I be right in saying these are closer to the outburst, a natural expression in your writing 🙂

    1. Right now with the Word of the Day Challenge I take the word and run with it. Once I have an idea I start to write. Lately I have been more in tune with my dark angry fun side. LOL Yes fun side. I love letting the darkness take over. Some of it is just outburst and some of it is that I do search for synonyms to use so I am not using the same words over and over again. At the moment and this is unusual but I think that it is because I am letting loose more and finding that darkness a good expression. I love writing. That is who I am. 🙂
