Mars’ Discipline

Sadly
looking over the battlefield
seeing carnage
body pieces everywhere
walking amongst the dead
tears spilling over
there is nothing that can be done.
Gore
blood slicked
mud churned up
once this was a beautiful meadow
full of flowers
green grass
a haven for animals
a picnic place for young lovers.
Scalded
scalped
stand over a sea of dead
wondering…..
is this death and destruction worth it?
Were the vile words
spewed
used to inflame
to incite deadly rampage
the first
or
the last?
Have you ever walked a battle scene?
Hazy air
smoke tinged blood
low moans
high screams
everyone calling for a loved one.
In tents
hastily erected
medical help
merely a finger in the dike
hoping to keep alive
those few they can.
Unlikely it is
that this nightmare will end
as men
scream and rant
stamping their feet to get their way.
Overgrown babies
sated on the teats of the poor
time has come
they are to be…..
the ones to reap what they have sown.

I am a single hard working mom in her 40's. I have always written poetry and I love words. I live with depression and its ups downs. This is a space where I can create and write all that I need to.
