Fear not the Fool

Safe
you thought
scampering around the hallways
under cover of night.
Snick
snee
no lock is closed to thee
tumblers move of their own accord
doors swing open
on silent hinges.
Small children
horror filled
screams ripped from tongueless mouths
your laughter
insanity filled
rips through the chamber
inflicting as much pain
as your pills.
Deadened
benumbed
laying there
heads lolling
lost in a drug induced world
so they hurt no more.
You are dastardly.
You are more than mean.
You stole these children
their innocence
their laughter
targeting them for debasement
for purity
money changed hands
I have seen it all
while sitting on the floor.
Creature of habit
your steps are always the same
path worn into stones
with each night’s passing.
Lay upon the floor
drool oozing
pooling beneath your head
as I sit
cross legged watching your death.
Harlequin I am…..
purveyor of broken dreams
(yours that is)
huntress of midnight
(shadow your steps)
guardian of splintered childhoods
(fear me not
I am here to help you)
Take me into your home
see me as a jester
reality be
I am more than that.
I am…..
your nightmare
their beautiful Paladin.

I am a single hard working mom in her 40's. I have always written poetry and I love words. I live with depression and its ups downs. This is a space where I can create and write all that I need to.
