This poem was prompted by ‘Mother’ written by EntangleDesigns.
Fairy tales
maternal influence
dies
leaving sullen daughter
for blighted step-mother to abuse.
What if
step-mother is not needed
abuse rains down
from one who is suppose to love
to teach
to protect
is the one who is cruel
who shatters innocence
secret demands.
Scarlet scars
ribboned
thin white slices
hidden
tears squalled
bitten lip
never give in
never give satisfaction.
Today
this day
to celebrate
embracing
celebrated cheer
I could not hate more.
You broke me
you sold me
you stole my childhood dear
why ever did you become a mom
when you despised me so much?
