Failure to Pay

Gaze

ever upwards

eyes slitted

remorse

given so much time

given so much energy

forgiven

time 

and again

only ever

burst into conflagration.

I am broken.

There is nothing more 

the well

this well

untapped 

drained

vile men

lands once fertile

shattered

cracked 

dirt filters through the air

no more….. 

no more can I take

pollution

deforestation

man’s folly

raping 

over and over 

believing 

never shall the piper be paid.

Night has fallen

moonlight

eyes peering 

water 

calamity is coming

my view

one last loving look

once abundant terrain

rock hard

sustaining life no more

as behind 

deafening crescendo

waves building 

surging

what once was

is no more.
