Subtle Terrors

You felt it
didn’t you?
That moment
hair on back of neck
down spine
glance around
all alone
own house
where is this fear
where is this sense of terror
breath stopping
heart pounding
something is there
reaching out
onto lap cat jumps
leaving self shaking
no sense of fear
of worry
eyes back to t.v.
movie still playing.
Notice not
staring off
grumbles of discontent
settle down
never know
kitty can see
what you cannot
salivating in the corner.

This space is where I share stories about myself and my life and the creative poetry that stirs my soul. My hope is you will pull up a chair and a cup of coffee delving into the world that I offer and you find simple enjoyment for a few moments. Welcome to The Wonderful & Wacky World of One Single Mom

  1. This is why I don’t have a cat… they can scare the royal crap out of you and I’m pretty sure they do it on purpose! I loved this poem, I think every person ever has felt this kind of creepy, inexplicable fear crawl over them. No to cats jumping on laps and growling menacingly towards an unseen something in the corner! Just No.
For clarification purposes, I have had 7 cats living in my house at one time, the last one got off to chase psychedelic bunnies a few years ago now at the tender age of 19. I cannot tell you how many times I have suffered the crawling fear you just described because one of the damn cats freaked me out with it’s caterwauling and grumbling at ‘something’ in the corner when there was nothing there!

    1. I know this feeling all to well. And again there is an image I have in my head and this sorta addresses it but not quite. It is the deranged ghost woman in the corner. I could not find exact pic but love the one I did chose. I love those artists at Deviant Art. They seem to have the artwork I need for my darker more evil waiting to eat your face work lol I am seeing something but not clearly.

      1. I love the pic, it’s very fitting for the feel of the whole poem. I got focused on the cat at the end of it because that was when I recognised I knew that feeling and why.
I’m sure the poem you want to tell will come when it decides to surface properly. They are usually the ones worth waiting for! xx
