Emmie Untitled Poem #10

Dirty room
thick
hangs smoke
table
covered
cards
chips
empty glasses
ashtrays
overflowing
men’s voice
harsh
laughter
words
sudden silence
all turn to see.
In corner
sat so quiet
eyes peering
seeing
ears hearing
knowing
resigned to fate
for always the same
each night
each day
dragged around
payment for debt due
always someone
who can use
a kid like her.
Final loss
knew it was coming
crooked finger
slowly walk over
head down
fearing
resigned to instructions
behind her
in limp hand
drags her teddy bear.
Off she walks
hand held
enveloped in large fist
returned
once payment is done.
