Yesterday the ex showed up at my till with the new girlfriend.
For someone who says that we were great friends I have no idea who she is.
I also may have gotten a little tetchy with him after the second time of him braying ‘huh?’ like an ass and suggested sharply that he invest in some damn hearing aids.
The customer behind not knowing the situation only caught the part about ‘damn hearing aids’ but I was in no mood to dispel his attitude towards me with an explanation.
I should not work Sundays.
I mean I can work just I should be done at 5 and not work through until 6.
I get irritated at the people walking into the store when we have 2 minutes until close for just one or two items.
$500 later and I am steaming.
Okay that may be an exaggeration on my part as it has never been that bad but I know that K told me about one where it was close to $300 and the customer refused to come to the till until they were done shopping.
Now this is where my customer service differs from theirs.
As a supervisor I brooked no shit with people shopping after close.
We have hours to shop in not before and most definitely not after.
Staff would like to get home and either go to bed or spend the rest of the evening with their families as is the case on Sundays.
I would go and let the customer know that we were closed and to head to the front.
The supervisors today are letting people slip in and shop for fear of upsetting them.
Look we are open 7 days a week.
7 a.m. to 10 p.m. 6 days a week.
12-6 on Sundays.
Please explain to me why you feel the need to wait until 5:59 to run to the store?
I was telling J yesterday that were I to stop at a business and they were closing even in 5 minutes I would turn around and go home.
Nothing is that important that it cannot wait.
I am not going to be that person.
I am just not a Sunday person.
I did not grow up with Sunday shopping.
If you ran out of something you went to the corner store, little mom and pop places where they knew your name.
Even Saturday everything was closed by 6 p.m.
And we are not talking about the 50’s.
In Steinbach our Main Street is shut down at 6 p.m.
Stores in the mall close at 6 as well.
And it is still 2021.

I remember the days when Sunday shopping wasn’t a thing and what a big deal it was when the laws changed. I suppose we have our American neighbours to thank for that. It would be nice to have one day a week where everyone was forced to slow down a little.

It is funny but the person who advocated the hardest for the change had changed his mind on the need for Sunday shopping but what can you do?

Yeah. I don’t see us going back now. 🙁

Never. Unless people themselves begin to embrace a slowed down life it will just keep getting more and more demanding as people jam pack every hour of every day.

It’s irksome–most weeks, Sunday is the only day I have time to go shopping!

But I totally understand why you don’t want to work on Sunday!
