Dreams Twist Away

I saw you today.

Walking the other way

across the street

nearly raised my hand

to call out for you to stop..

Let it fall

for it had been so long

too long

that bridge burned

while I danced in the shoals

maniacal grin

slid into place.

Easier to pretend

know you not

see you not

claim you not

better this way

east

west

sunrise

sunset

neither met.

Tears gathered

clinging to lashes

unwilling

unable

determined to fall.

Far enough you were

I turned to glimpse

once more

the man grown

from the boy I knew

who with sweet kisses

promised me eternity..
