I mean, it has been nearly a year and a half since we began doing curbside. During this time period I have managed to use my carts that I use to take my orders out to the customer I have not run into or over anyone. Until today.
I searched forever for a picture that would give you an idea of the cart and the above is as close as I could find. Now imagine it has a handle around back to hold onto to push. And a middle shelf that is adjustable. The back tires are thick and heavy to cope with the weight.
At 11:15 a.m. my customer called to say she had arrived for her pick up and I went to get her order. Grabbed my jacket and threw it on before going into the cooler to grab the cart. 2 x 4L of milk and two large boxes full of groceries. I grabbed the side of the cart and swung it around…..and drove over my right foot and toes.
How did I do this? I do not know. I did not scream. I did cling to the side of the cart and scream curses in my head. After a moment I straightened up pushed the cart out of the dairy cooler and out to the customer.
For the rest of the day I hobbled around.
When I got home I sat down and iced my foot. Keeping it elevated.
The bonus in all of this? That the cart I had used for this order the back tires where soft because they need air. So they gave as they rolled over my foot. The other two carts, the wheels are solid like a rock. I would still be crying in the cooler.
