Strength Internal

I listen
head titled
voices wash over
stories
built upon the strands
subtle breeze
rifling faded leaves
love stories
lines written in the sands
dissolved by the sea
horrors that rise
when night is at its blackest
serenity is a lie
eyes dry
pearls no longer glow
lighting the skyline
bronzed fire
hear the dragons roar.
Thunder bellows
lightening crackles
triumphant I stand
masque torn off
woman I see
reflected in the mirror
phoenix
golden plume
strength…..
once I was broken
once I was lost
once I thought never to be found;
lies
ingrained
chains
ripped free
never again
will I allow you to make me bleed.

History Repeats

Late to the party they  came
crashing the shorelines
razing beliefs
Mother Nature
harmony
all is one
one is all
poetry of the land and man.
Hands held out in friendship
slapped away
rebuked
‘nothing do you know
we are better
we are whiter
you are wrong
your gods are wrong
everything you have been taught
is wrong.’
Language stricken
bars of soap eaten
if heard the words of home
of comfort
ever spoken.
‘kneel now
before your better
acknowledge our god
as the only god
even as he condones the abuses
that you shall suffer
to earn his love.’
Braids removed
shorn like Samson
strength removed
through beatings
beratings
time and again
day
night
ever on
the tides never turned
no matter how many words…..
