Dark Souls

Perfect family
mom
dad
brother and sister
little baby too
fantasy life on the outside
nightmare within.
Eat every morsel
lesson learned
if you do not
upon feces one shall dine
until up it is puked.
Clean every corner
let no grime remain
soap scum
means a bar in the mouth
nasty names screamed in vain.
No accidents in the underwear
big girl
yes you are
hair brush wielded
can no longer sit down.
Door locked…..
keep the monsters at bay…..
keep the monsters away…..
fear
pain
desire for death
the perfect family
revered by all
oh if only they really knew.
Sunday comes
father mounts the pulpit
holy book in hand
decries the sins of the common man
denounces the devil’s tricks
making light of his.
In the gloom
a devil did sit
saliva dangling to the floor
later that night
giggling to himself
he shall dine upon the darkest souls.

Silver Tears

Everyone thought that they knew her.
Her story
her beginnings
her middle
but none dreamed of her end.
A beauty
like Helen of Troy
men at her feet
showering her in adoration
jewels
money
yet never love.
Slate grey sky
matching stormy eyes
if only they knew
if only they had paid attention
if only she had told them.
Wretched blackness
clings to her soul
reminding her of the past
the abuse
the agony
but on her lips
an enigmatic smile plays
dazzling her lovers.
Under moonlit sky
she wept
silver tears of pain.

Serenity

Like a small child

hunkered down

hiding

dreading the blow to come

so do you

make yourself so big

so boistrous

that all are distracted by the gloss.

The pains are less

washed down with spirits

with tainted love

drowning in disbelief

how did it come to this?

Within

I see the potential

I see the man you could rise to be

if only….

you gave yourself a chance

if only….

you realized happiness could be ours

if only…..

you could see yourself

through my eyes.

Understanding gained

pain released

hold me close

never let go

your serenity I will always be.

Tears of crystal submission
burn my cheeks
blinding my sight as I face you
the truth you are holding up.
I created a man
of fiction.
The love I felt
an illusion.
It does not make it easier
in fact
if anything facing this facade
makes me want to hide.
How could I have been so blind?
I am strong enough.
I have learned enough about myself
to know that I am dear.
Watch my ass as I walk away.
I will stand true
not allow myself to falter
accept a small penance of pain
than move on.
Would you like to know
in 2018
how a woman moves on?
She deletes all your texts.

Bastard……

He struts and prances

selling his wares

a snake oil salesman

with charm oozing from his hair.

Warm and pleasant

he will remember your name

your wives names (if you have more than one)

your children’s names (and who they belong to)

and even the family dog’s name.

He will take you for a walk

he will tell you what you need

by the end of the day

you will hand over the deed.

Flabbergasted

I watch him wheel and deal

and wonder how it is

that no one can see

the venomous viper

writhing beneath his skin.

Beautifully Imperfect

I thought I was broken
a marionette without strings
slumped on the floor
body in distress.
As I lay there
tears falling like rain to the floor
I find within me
resides this strength
that I had never felt before.
Tentitavely I probe it
afraid that I will be shocked
nothing happens
I crawl forward
amazed at what I have found.
I struggle to sit up
strings not required
I can climb to my feet
and seek my desires.
No longer broken
for I have begun to reconstruct
becoming who I am…..
beautifully imperfect.

Blind Belief

They were placed side by side

one so bright

the other black as night.

Good confronts evil

or so it was said

but what was found in their hearts

made the juxtaposition clear.

The one who sought beauty

was vain and crass

oblivious to the world around.

The one who sought anger

was gentle and compassionate

hurt by the savagery of the world around.

Polar opposites

examples of right and wrong

if only they had looked further

they would have found

the one who could have saved them all.
