In all his time in schools it has been very rare for T to call/text me to say that something was wrong.
When he was in grade 1 he had headaches a lot. Eventually we ended up in the city and he had a scan of his brain and there was nothing. We put our foot down about him being able to call home and have someone pick him up when suddenly his headaches disappeared.
When he was in grade 5 I received a call he was sick. I had to go and get him from school and bring him home.
And then today. I was sitting on lunch when my phone suddenly buzzed. It was T messaging that he had hurt his foot at school. They had gone on an outing for end of year to one of the camps around here. They could do field games, horseback riding, archery, swimming, kayaking etc. T had chosen field games and first thing this morning as he went to kick the ball in the soccer game, he instead kicked the shin of the opposing player.
This was at 10 a.m. I received my text at 3:05 p.m. I whipped off to the school and picked him up. The Emergency room was going to be a long wait as he really was not an emergency. No protruding bones. The walk-in clinics were full. So I brought him home.
When he took off his runner and shoe I was presented with the above foot. Horrified I was sure he had broken something but there was no pain as I moved and wiggled each toe. He is now laying down, foot elevated and icing. I am most hopeful that tomorrow the swelling will go down and he will end up with some colorful bruising.
