Blessed Be

I wrote this poem at the end of 2019.

Thursday Sept. 30/21 was the first Truth and Reconciliation Day. It is a Federal holiday and it is a day to learn of the abuses faced by the Indigenous of this country. To listen. To hear. To participate in the healing. Finding this poem this morning and reading it made me realize that this poem suits what we are discovering today.

Blessed be
the child you brought to me
set forth
allowed me the temptation.
It is not my fault
this is how I am made.
I am sorry my Lord
forgive me
you have made me as such
despite the pain
the atrocities
you comfort me
keep me within the fold
allow me the cover
to continue my evil.
Hide your head
those children you should have protected
marred
brutalized
still you smile
still you laugh
shaking your fingers
adding sin after sin
while hiding
defending
the one who should
truly
be hair shirted to hell.
Moved
forgotten
horror driven
suicide
rape
more abuse
all because
men are in power
protecting the guilty
forfeit the innocent
all in the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ.

What do you think?

Was up at 4 a.m. this morning (naturally no alarm) and laid in bed for about half an hour scrolling through my news feed and falling down the rabbit hole. I start with one and if not careful will end up on a subject very far removed from where I began.

This morning though I was a little alarmed and more than a little perturbed that in B.C. some schools have had to go into lock down and will continue to due so for the foreseeable future. Children will not be allowed to leave the school. If parents need to see or get their child(ren) they will have to call and make arrangements with the school.

Now typically this is a response that we see when there is any serious incidents close to the schools. T’s school has gone into lockdown once so far and been evacuated once as well. His dad had to pick him after 5 at the school after the lockdown that was how long it took before they were able to clear the area and determine the threat. The other time a bomb threat was called in because someone did not want to take a test is what was bandied around.

However it is not as though there is an active shooter prowling the schools. No in fact it was anti-vaxxers. Into three elementary schools demanding to speak with principals. Yes you are reading that right. Adults romped into three elementary schools to protest.

IN THE SCHOOLS.

So I ask you what are your thoughts?

We can protest all we want. Peacefully and without causing terror. We do not storm buildings. We do not stop people from seeking hospital aid. We do not practice violent behviour towards our elected officials.

I cannot tell a lie. The last two have occurred in Canada. People blocking access to hospitals. People hurling abuse and projectiles at our candidates. Signs being slashed and hateful speech printed over. (The last one occurred with our liberal candidate in my riding.) He is transgender and lives with his husband and their two children. You can imagine what type of bullshit was spewed on his signs. And the disgusting thing is someone took the time to design and print up the stickers that were placed around the city.

I want things to be better for T when he is an adult. I want things to be better for everyone but it is the generations coming up behind us that will have to do the hard work.
