Subtle Terrors

You felt it
didn’t you?
That moment
hair on back of neck
straight
shiver
down spine
glance around
all alone
own house
where is this fear
where is this sense of terror
breath stopping
heart pounding
waiting
knowing
something is there
reaching out
skeletal
cold
fingers
scream
laugh
onto lap cat jumps
leaving self shaking
no sense of fear
of worry
eyes back to t.v.
movie still playing.
Notice not
staring off
corner
grumbles of discontent
hiss
growling
hush
settle down
never know
kitty can see
what you cannot
salivating in the corner.

Thunder of Wars Waged

Can you hear?
Weeping
chorus sung
boots thump
mothers
screaming pain
fathers
smiling pride
sweethearts
promises broken
brothers
nephews
uncles
men
taken
to wage war
to keep power
in hands
of hungry
mad
old white men
penchant
dining on lies
swilling degradation
with smiles upon their lips
disdain
for generations
upon whose back
their wealth has grown
voices repressed
salient desires
hook
crook
stolen
under public noses
nothing done
til now…..
wake not to blazing skies
drone of planes a high
enemies come
discord beset
all of this
it could have been undone.
