Pretty little bird
kept in gilded cage
wings clipped
unable to fly
sits upon the perch.
I was a fool.
I should have known better
a man such as you
with a woman such as me?
Preposterous!
I saw the way they looked at me
with lust
with disgust
no one would ever fathom
I was not the monster
in this game.
Comely elfin fairy
flit from place to place
staring out of blanked eyes
smile plastered on face.
The first one
I was stunned.
You swore
you avowed
it would never happen again.
Except that it did.
I learned to move
quiet like
all through out the house.
Solemn
sullen
words condemning
fists coming
I had to hide.
Taken from a hovel
placed upon a stage
everyone knew their lines
I did not.
Gallant prince
to those in public
monster in our home
beating me.

I thought so too. But then had to figure out how to use hovel as well. As you know that is my challenge to myself. I have to use the word of the day in the poem I write.
